Heat Pump Maintenance Is the Key to Longevity

Heat pump maintenance is key to extending the lifespan of a unit. Heat pumps are often used instead of an air conditioner or furnace. Its purpose is to take heat and move it from one area to another. Most often it is from outside to inside of a dwelling. When working to cool it will take the heated air from within a home and transfer it outside. In reverse, it will work to bring heat inside on colder days. It is also combined with a furnace when the climates are cooler. They work best in temperate areas.

The first tip in heat pump maintenance is inspection. The cost of an annual inspection is well worth it when compared to buying a new unit. Inspections are recommended yearly, but read manufacturer instructions for any differences.

Heat pump maintenance also includes making sure filters are changed or cleaned each month and outside elements are not interfering with its operation. With allergy sufferers it is very important because dirt and dust are a nightmare. Filth and debris also force these unites to work harder and can increase energy costs when the filters are not changed and there is debris surrounding the unit. When there is debris around it will become less efficient and can even become damaged. It is up to the owner to make sure this does not occur. During harsher weather and when it is especially windy a thorough check may be required more often.
